With advances in cosmetic surgery, it is now possible to sculpt and refine the body, resulting in a more attractive and youthful contour. Surgery to remove excess skin and fat is both an art and a science. Dr. Malan can help you determine if body contouring surgery is an option to help you achieve the firmer, smoother figure you desire.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, enhances the contours of the waist and abdomen by eliminating excess fat and skin and tightening the underlying abdominal muscles. The ideal tummy tuck candidates are men and women who are relatively fit, but still have excess fat that causes the abdomen to protrude. Tummy tuck is also an effective solution for women whose abdominal muscles have been significantly weakened by pregnancy.

A tummy tuck procedure begins with the surgeon making an incision just above the pubic area, from hip bone to hip bone. After separating the skin flap from the underlying muscles and tissue, Dr. Malan removes excess fat and tightens the abdominal muscles by stitching loose muscle tissue together. Once this is complete, the skin flap is gently stretched down and pulled taut with excess skin trimmed away. Although Dr. Malan utilizes the most advanced scar-minimizing surgical techniques, it is important to remember that abdominoplasty does leave a permanent scar that can usually be covered by underwear or swim wear. Most patients see the scar as a fair trade-off for a smaller waistline and trimmer stomach.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Often, when a person loses a significant amount of weight, the skin in certain areas of the body does not fully contract to the new, smaller size; it appears loose and flabby. This is particularly noticeable in the upper arms. An arm lift procedure trims away this excess skin and restores a naturally trim and firm look.

Body Lift (Thigh, Buttock, Abdominal Combo)

Men and women who have achieved weight loss can be disappointed with the way their new bodies look due to excessive loose skin. This sagging skin is, unfortunately, quite common in these patients, and can even interfere with hygiene and finding clothing that fits properly.

A body lift is a comprehensive treatment that addresses loose skin of the abdomen, buttocks and thighs with one or more surgical procedures. Dr. Malan can help weight-loss patients achieve more normal and shapely proportions by carefully trimming away this excess skin. A body lift is often celebrated as the final step in transforming the physical appearance after successful weight loss.

Lipoplasty/Liposuction

Sometimes, despite maintaining a regular exercise routine and an appropriate diet, localized fatty tissue deposits persist on certain areas of the body. If you are bothered by unwanted fat deposits, liposuction may be right for you. Liposuction improves the contours of your body by suctioning unwanted fat deposits, producing a slimmer, more proportionate figure. This procedure can be performed almost anywhere stubborn pockets of fat exist, including the jaw line, upper arms, breasts, abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks.

To perform liposuction, Dr. Malan makes tiny incisions in the targeted area. These incisions are usually placed inconspicuously within the natural folds of the skin in order to conceal any post-operative scars. Working through these incisions, Dr. Malan aspirates and shapes the fat, using a small flexible tube called a cannula. Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia and can last two or more hours, depending on the amount of fat that must be removed. Swelling, bruising, numbness, and soreness are common after-effects of liposuction that usually subside within a week or two.

Tumescent liposuction:
is a variation of conventional liposuction that permits the removal of large amounts of fat while minimizing blood loss. During tumescent liposuction, the surgeon injects a safe anesthetic solution into the targeted area. This solution causes the fat deposits to become firm and swollen, allowing for easier removal of the fat with the cannula
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction:
utilizes a specialized cannula that emits ultrasonic energy, which liquefies the fatty tissue before it is vacuumed out.

Dr. Malan performs either tumescent or ultrasound-assisted liposuction, depending on each patient's unique needs and desired outcome.
